There was so much enthusiasm and thoughtful points made by the 135+ attendees at last Wednesday’s Rhode Island Department of Transportation rail listening session in Westerly. People shared, in their own words, why frequent, affordable service matters — from avoiding the stress of long drives especially for seniors or during bad weather conditions, to getting to doctor’s appointments in Boston, commuting to URI or Providence or Boston for work, reaching TF Green airport, enjoying dining and entertainment in CT & NYC, supporting the growing demand for Electric Boat workers in Groton & Quonset. The breadth of perspectives made a compelling case for why Westerly deserves better rail service — and why I’ll keep pushing to make it happen.
